2018 CYC Foster Youth Job Shadow Day at the Capitol
Legislators are invited to join California Youth Connection for the 9th annual Foster Youth Job Shadow Day at the Capitol on WEDNESDAY, MAY 9, 2018! Led by CYC, CWDA, Children Now and the California Alliance of Child and Family Services, current and former foster youth are matched with legislators for this event that has become one of the most popular activities at the Capitol for legislators, legislative staff and youth.
About the Day
This day raises awareness about the plight of California’s more than 60,000 foster children. Modeled on “Take Your Child to Work” days that foster youth rarely get to participate in, this is an amazing opportunity for legislators to support a foster youth.
Current and former foster youth ages 16-24 are matched with legislators and spend the day shadowing a legislator and his/her staff, including attending hearings, meetings, and getting an up-close look at the important work being done in the Capitol. In addition, youth are eager to share their stories and first-hand knowledge of the foster care system with legislators and staff. It is essential that legislators take youth along with them to hearings and meetings – youth are eager to spend the day with you.
CYC and its team will handle logistics for the day, including matching legislators with a current or former foster youth and arranging travel for the youth. Legislators and legislative staff are not responsible for finding a youth to host.
RSVP deadline is MONDAY, APRIL 16, 2018.
