Child Welfare Services (CWS) Courtesy Supervision for Foster Children County Information
County Information
Children in foster care may sometimes be placed in a county different from the one that holds jurisdiction over their case. In these situations, counties collaborate to ensure the child continues to receive appropriate monitoring, support, and services. Courtesy supervision occurs when the county where a child is placed provides local oversight and support on behalf of the county that retains legal responsibility for the case. While the placing county maintains case management and decision-making authority, the supervising county assists with monitoring the placement and connecting the child and caregiver to local resources.
The resource below provides county contact information to support coordination when courtesy supervision is requested and to help counties quickly identify the appropriate contacts to facilitate collaboration and ensure the safety and well-being of children placed outside their county of jurisdiction.
