California Must Protect Our Most Vulnerable, Maintain Human Service Programs

Press release Carlos Marquez III

Sacramento, CA – The County Welfare Directors Association (CWDA) of California issued the following statement from Executive Director Carlos Marquez III today on the release of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s 2025-26 May Budget Revision:

“In the face of deep uncertainty and economic upheaval, Governor Newsom has endeavored to protect core human services programs in his May Revision, including preserving existing funding levels for CalWORKs, an essential lifeline for low-income families who continue to struggle with affordability. However, we are deeply concerned about proposed cuts to essential foster family supports and proposed eligibility restrictions to life-saving programs like In-Home Supportive Services and Medi-Cal.

CWDA is committed to partnering with the Administration and Legislature to maintain funding for core human services programs and maintaining robust access for vulnerable populations to California’s safety net.”
